Dow believes that providing humanity with a sustainable energy supply while addressing climate change is one of the most urgent environmental issue our society faces. And as a science and technology leader, and a global supplier of energy-efficient building materials, Dow is uniquely positioned to provide innovative solutions to this issue through the development of building integrated photovoltaics.
As part of a cooperative agreement with a consortium of industry partners and the U.S. Department of Energy's Solar America Initiative Technology Pathway Partnership program, Dow is investing US$50 million in research and development of this next-generation solar technology.
But this is just the beginning...
Dow is committed to the photovoltaics industry, and we continue to listen to and troubleshoot with architects, specifiers, builders and roofers to make solar power more affordable, easier to install and less obtrusive. It starts with a solar shingle, but may extend to integrating solar cells into siding, fascias and other building materials from Dow…Combined with STYROFOAM™ Brand insulation materials, we foresee "zero-net-energy buildings" in the not-so-far-off future…Connected to a smart grid that allows electricity generated by home solar collectors to be directed back to the utility company for credit and redistribution.
